I cannot emphasise enough the importance of dry fruits in our daily diet. The health benefits of dry fruits are tremendous as they are a rich source of minerals and proteins and the best way to incorporate them into your child’s diet is by way of dry fruits milkshake. To this milkshake add a banana for a fruity kick and you have a super tasty, super creamy banana milkshake. You can add any nut or dry fruits of your choice based on availability and taste.

 Main Ingredients:

  •  milk
  •   dry fruits

 Ingredients

  •   Chilled Milk - 3 cups
  •   Honey - 2 tbsps OR Sugar - 2 tbsps
  •   Cashew nuts - 8
  •   Almonds - 6 (reserve 1 for garnish)
  •   Dates – 3 (de-seed)
  •   Dried Figs – 2
  •   Raisins – 10
  •   Pistachios - 8 (reserve 2 for garnish)
  •   Walnut - 1 (optional)
  •   Cardamom powder – 1/2 tsp OR vanilla extract - 2 drops

Method for making Dry fruits milkshake

1: Chop figs and dates. Soak them in 1/4 cup milk for 15 mts.
2: Blend the soaked figs, dates, almonds, raisins and pistachios to a smooth paste
3: Add the rest of the milk, honey or sugar and cardamom powder and blend to combIne to make a smooth and frothy liquid.
4: Using a food processor or a blender, grind the soaked ingredients to a smooth paste. Add the iced milk, honey, vanilla extract and blend well.
5: Pour into tall glasses and serve the chilled milkshake.

Tips

  •   Add a scoop of vanilla ice-cream for a richer flavor when serving kids.
  •   You can use only almonds and cashewnuts or pistachios if you do not have other dry fruits on hand.

    We generally grind the nuts and make a mix-nut powder of it and add 2-3 tsp/ cup of milk, adding a dash of kesar at times and simmer till the milk is reduced to 3/4th of cup, . This one sounds better due to addition of honey and dates. Looks so inviting !!!!

    If I may suggest a diabetic about this milkshake, I would suggest them to avoid sugar/honey from this as the dry fruits itself has good amount of natural sugars in them and milk has carbs, protein and fat. I had to bring this up, cause these days fasting is maintained by elderly people and 90% of them are diabetic. 😉
