Summer Coolers ~ Mexican Drink – Watermelon Agua Fresca

Ever since I saw a gorgeous looking watermelon drink on Nabeela’s blog, I have been wanting to try it. I googled to learn more about this Mexican street food fare and learnt that Agua Fresca literally means “fresh water” and also found a recipe here. The watermelon season is through here but I was fortunate to find a few at Spencer’s.

An absolutely chilled delightful lemon-flavored afternoon treat to the core! I served it along side a Mexican meal consisting of Mexican rice, corn chips, mango salsa and dumplings in baked beans sauce.

    Dear Sailaja,
    Another delicious recipe!
Pls try that: spare a bit of the drink and freeze it to little ice cubes and put them into the drink next time. It cools down the drink and does not affect its flavour/taste. You can even put the ice cubes into another fruit drink.
Besides, I have to tell you that I became quite addicted to your website. Not only the big variety of your recipes captured me it’s also all that additional information you provide. Especially for me as a western person it bears so many small details about India which I highly appreciate.
    Take care and keep well
    Gila (from Switzerland)

Thanks for that wonderful tip, Gila. I am so glad my blog is helping you learn more about Indian food.:)

  • Dawna

That looks so good, Sailu! I’ll have to make it when Palle’s away, though, since he’s allergic to melons. I’m curious about the dumplings in baked bean sauce – can you tell me a little more about them?

Dawna, these dumplings are made from flour, egg whites and maize flour and cooked in a mixture of sauteed onions, tomatoes and baked beans. Delicious. I will be blogging this recipe soon.
