Left Over Idlis with CarrotI always have left over Idlis when I prepare Idlis for breakfast or dinner. When I am in need of a quick snack, all I do is saute the crumbled cold refrigerated idlis with a spiced base of onions and lots of fresh coriander leaves. I tend to play with the spices each time I go the crumbled idli upma way. |

Thotakura Undalu ~ Crispy Amaranth Leaves BallsAmaranth leaves are much loved in our home and take the form of stir fry, dal and stews in our daily meals. In recent past, I have used these nutritious greens along with chick pea flour (besan) to prepare fritters. They are easy to make, work great as appetizers for parties and also make for a wonderful tea time snack. |
Cabbage PakodiHave you tried cabbage in the form a crispy pakoda? If you haven’t and are fond of cabbage then you should try today’s recipe. To many, cabbage may not be the prettiest or tastiest of vegetables but it more than makes up in flavor in the garb of a besan coated, golden crisp pakodi. |
Savory Maida Biscuits – Diamond CutsI have a lot of childhood memories associated with this savory snack. My Ammamma and Amma would prepare huge quantities of Maida Biscuits (the name they go by at home) and store them in large containers. Back from school, we would head straight to the pantry and grab a plateful of maida biscuits and savor them like there was no tomorrow. Maida chips, maida biscuits, diamond cuts, maida squares, khara biscuits, whatever the name, they were extremely popular among us kids and friends. |
Quick Bread CutletsWith 4 slices of left over bread and boiled potatoes (prepared Aloo parathas yesterday), I prepared quick bread cutlets for our evening tea snack. Not much of a recipe really, used left overs that I combined with spices, chopped onions and fresh coriander leaves and shallow fried till golden crisp. Fun, fast, healthy and tasty alternate to deep fried snacks. |
Samosa – Indian SnackIndia’s popular snack that finds a place in almost every bakery or chaat shop – our very own Samosa. Savory comfort food at its best, a crisp exterior filled with a savory vegetable stuffing that goes very well over a hot cup of chai especially on a rain filled day. |
