Print Posts

This particular dish is made of broken wheat and is a very healthy dish especially when one is sick and needs strength and energy. You can make it for breakfast on a weekend or dinner. :)

Godhuma Rava Idli - Steamed Wheat Squares

Dry roast ¼ kg (250 gms) of broken wheat till it turns red. Add salt, 1 cup of curd and enough water to the roasted wheat till you get a paste like batter. Let is sit for half an hour. Add 1 tbsp of grated ginger, 1 tbsp of chopped green chillis, 2 tbsps of chopped coriander leaves, 3 tbsps of grated carrot and 2 tbsp of grated fresh coconut (optional). Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan and add ¼ tsp mustard seeds and let them splutter and add 10 curry leaves, fry for 10 seconds. Remove from fire. Add this to the wheat-curd batter. Combine well and spread ladle full on idli trays and steam for 15 minutes. Alternately you can steam in a dish and cut into square pieces and serve.

You can have this with any chutney, groundnut, coconut or coriander chutney. You can find more chutney (pachadi) recipes.
